Why Is It Called Elephant Falls?
The British named the falls after a massive rock at the foot of the cascade that resembled an elephant. Although the rock was destroyed during an earthquake in 1897, the name stuck. Locally, the Khasi people refer to it as “Ka Kshaid Lai Pateng Khohsiew,” which translates to “The Three-Step Waterfall.”

3. Lower Tier
