Chatakpur is a tranquil tiny village in Darjeeling district with lush forests and magnificent views of Kanchenjunga. Situated at an altitude of about 7800 feet, Chatakpur is one of the highest villages in Darjeeling district. Located within the Senchal forest area, it offers panoramic views of snow-clad mountains of the Himalayan range and lush green forest of alpine trees 🌳
Once upon a time, this village was a timber den and people used to rampantly smuggle out the timbers. But the forest department has taken the initiative to remodel it to an eco-tourism place where the villagers actively participate in it in order to make tourism an alternative source of livelihood other than just farming.🌳
The village lies between Mount Kanchenjunga at North and flowing river ‘Relly Khola’ at the south, for this reason, Chatakpur provides a spectacular view of the range of Kanchenjunga and evergreen forest. Around 90-100 people are living in this village within around 18-20 village cottages. Organic farming, medicinal herbs, wood cutting and village tourism is the main source of income for villagers.🌳

How to reach Chatakpur
If you are staying somewhere in Darjeeling then you have to reach Sonada first and then after half n hour (30 minutes) drive you will reach Chatakpur.
Chatakpur is 7 kilometers away from Sonada. Hired car from Darjeeling takes tourists from Darjeeling to Chatakpur village.
